These are not meant to last a lifetime! As with all silicone bracelets they do break down and especially if you are putting them through harsh chemicals etc. If your band is snug on your wrist or you are one to stretch your bands out this will also inflate the chance of breakdown. These bracelets are color coated. So the color of the engraving is the real color of the bracelet. It is common after wear and tear that you may see the real color come through. However I will say that it is all about how well you take care of your bracelet. I have been wearing mine for 6 months now and it's still going strong!
